FERNAND EVERAERT.

Fernand is bitten by clay. He discovered all the possibilities of the earth through tasting, touching and loving it. His continuous search led to new ideas and sophisticated but sober shapes the whole has a balanced character. In the subtle colourcontrasts he uses one feels warmth, rest and selfconfidence.

Fernand loves to work together with other people in order to learn from eachother. This also proves that he has interest in the work of other people. His working attitude and enthusiasm gets him in contact with worldwide leading artists.

He is master of all possible techniques but technique stays of secondary importance to composition. The fine structure of terra sigillata finishes the polished shapes. We all know Fernand his work results from years of experience. The handicraft nature of his work is self-evident. Lately the art pieces became even more playful, figurative and more sophisticated. The combination of the fire, heat from the oven, the wood, the atmosphere and the reduction results in the creation of a visual dazzling piece of art work.

Fernand always creates unique art pottery and stoneware.

He works up the clay with 20 to 30% organic material in order to get a pot he uses to decorate.

The strong shape gets moulded with graphic artistic compositions, sometimes controlled sometimes spontaneous. He obtains these simple, abstract compositions through rubbing, burnishing or scraping. The abstractions are inspired by landscapes, nature or spontaneous movements. The simple though subtle colours used emphasize the abstraction and the vitality in it. As a result the abstraction starts to lead a life of his own without loosing the tie with the original pot. The whole gives a meditative impression or leads to a meditative, sacred feeling.

Fernand aims for authenticity and perfection in material and shape.

He wants to emphasize the strength of the pieces by the reiteration in the shape used in the whole. This way the shape is subordinated to the whole.

Through photography Fernand found out a bit more of his inner self, about his creative possibilities. The landscape and the seasons with their typical colours made Fernand swift to a new direction: ceramics. He feels and tastes the earth in order to discover all her possibilities. His continuous search brought him new ideas and shapes who radiate perfect soberness
